Little bird drinks from the glass!

Amelia finally decided to drink something else than mommy's milk. Yesterday she reached for my glass filled with water. Like a little bird - she is attracted to the water in a clear glass. She does not care for the cup at all, it has to be glass. And just like little bird - she does not take big sips yet :-) She refused to take a bottle, a sippy cup, etc. My friend told me that drinking from the cup goes along with self feeding the solids which she does. On Tuesday she snatched a french fry from my plate and ate it all. Funny girl, always makes us laugh :-)

Awesome present from Grandma!

Amelia got wonderful present from Grandma for her birthday. It's called "Block Party Geometry" and it comes from www.onestepahead.com. It's a great tool in terms of her physical therapy! She loves to play on that and it seems like a lot of fun! Even belly time seems more acceptable on the colorful triangle :-) I can strongly recommend it. Even Ollie and his friends have fun with it and it is durable and just perfect size for infants and toddlers alike!
Just have a look:

I want to seat alone!

Amelia wants to seat up without support and she to pulls forward everytime she sits on my lap or when we sit together on the floor. Of course we do not let her to sit by herself yet (except this one time to take this picture below!) as her back muscles and the spine are not strong enough quite yet, and we do everything not to reinforce her kyphosis. Actually we must be doing something right as Amelia's physical therapist said that even though kyphosis usually gets worse at this stage (when kids try to sit without support) her kyphisis did not. She even noticed that the kyphosis "soften" a little, seems more flexed and we are on a right track to correcting it. To hear that it was such a relief! I really do a lot to prevent this kyphosis from getting worse in terms of exercises, proper positioning, etc. Amelia will see her ortho next week and will have her first x-ray taken so we will talk more about the kyphosis and it's evaluation. Amelia turned one and if I remember well at this age babies with achondroplasia usually are about to sit without support and it should be ok to allow that. What are your thoughts on that and your personal experience?
I would hate to let Amelia do something she is not ready for....

Bravo Amelia!

I am extremely pleased to report another Amelia's achievement! Now she is clapping her hands and loves the song "when you happy and you know it clap your hands" and she does it especially after she does something well. She also knows the meaning of the word "BRAVO" and likes to applaud herself seeing how happy we are. She's got cheerleaders in us :-)
I have another video. I love to capture these things, especially when she just starts to learn them.

Rollin' around!

Yesterday everything changed. I looked from the kitchen to check on Amelia who was playing on the floor in the playroom and ...she was not there! It was a scary feeling at first but then, of course, I realized that she just took off rolling around the room. We have been waiting for that moment for a long time wondering why on earth she did not want to do it, stuck in one place. I guess she was not ready until now, two weeks before her first birthday. This great step forward coincided with her eating so much better. Another great thing is that her allergy related rush on the face cleared up. Because I am still breast feeding her I just can't eat products with milk (no chocolate, oh dear!) and unless you are allergic to milk you would not believe how many products actually contain milk proteins, whey, butter, cream or just plain milk ( mainly sweet things, I am doomed!). I also can't have grapes and raisins and mango which I can easily live without.

So much to be happy about - what a great beginning of the new year. Year of the Tiger as the Chinese say....It will be great I can feel it. It will bring strength, courage, and positive energy which we wish you all.
